Moncarta Wins on Debut

Jan 13, 2017

Brian extended a good recent run when his first starter Moncarta scored on debut at Ararat last Friday.

After drawning barrier 10 in the field of 11 in the 1600 metre event, local Bendigo jockey Patrick Holmes took luck out of the equation by pressing forward and taking the lead early. Moncarta was never headed from there, in a tough effort and good training performance by Brian Gentle to have the son of Uncle Mo ready to run out a strong mile on a heavy track at Moncarta's first start.

Bought out of the 2015 Melbourne Premier sale for $42,000, Moncarta is a son of former champion US two-year-old Uncle Mo, and his older half sister (Marju) is Burning Sands, a winner of the Group 3 Sweet Embrace Stakes in Sydney. Moncarta was one of two horses purchased at the 2015 Melbourne Premier sale the other being Ribbon Of Choice who also won on debut at Bendigo and gone on to race well at Listed level during the spring.
