Aboutogobang Goes Bang Bang

The aptly-named Aboutogobang from the Brian Gentle stable broke his maiden in style at Canterbury on Wednesday.

Aboutogobang was faced with seven rivals in the Testa Rossa @ Vinery Plate (1250m) for his fifth career start after a pair of midfield finishes around the same track at his last two starts.

The son of Domesday bounded out of the gates to lead on the inside of Mai Gomeroi from the Patrick Webster yard with the Anthony Cummings-trained Chairman's Vote in hot pursuit.

Approaching the home turn, Aboutogobang pinched a break on the field before going into another gear in the straight and winning comfortably.

Gentle, who utilizes facilities at both Cobbitty Lodge and Rosehill, is upbeat about the future of his three-year-old after doing most of his learning at the races rather than trials.

"That was very nice and he's just starting to put it all together," Gentle said. "Without any disrespect to the other, today was probably the easiest of the three Canterbury races that he's had.

"The talent that he shows me on the track, he's doing all his education at the races rather than going to the trials, he's only ever had one trial.

"On Thursday morning he galloped with a horse of mine that won at Bathurst yesterday and giving him three or four lengths start, he beat him four lengths hard held.

"He's shown a lot of ability from day one."

Below is the punters report on the race.

Aboutogobang:  Took up the running and was afforded a moderate tempo before accelerating away to win easy. Should improve off that as he was almost a month between runs.
