Doomben Win For Ozberry Miss

Jan 09, 2013

A hit and run raid during the Magic Millions carnival to Brisbane paid off for Ozberry Miss. After finishing a good second at Wyong, Brian made the unusual decision to back Ozberry Miss up just six days later. Not that the six day back up is something unusual but to turn around to the owners and say " I'm going to put her on the float and take Ozberry Miss to run in Brisbane." Gentle said

After racing at Wyong on the Thursday, Gentle put Ozberry Miss along with Stablemate Blucara on tthe float for the trip north. " we only took them as far as the Gold Coast, I could get stables for them there that are yard type boxes and I thought they would settle in better and it's only an hour drive from the Gold Coast to Brisbane for the races" said Gentle.

Aided by lovely ride by Paul Hammersley Ozberry Miss took up the early, and after being pressured from the 800m she was able to cruise away from the rest of the field to win by 4 lengths. " thet was fairly painless, and she looks like a bit further distance won't worry her at all. I will keep her going through the grades and see where she ends up, but we will take her home and let her tell us the next steps over the next week " Gentle said.

The ever consistant Blucara ran a very creditable second on the day. After having a cosey run behind the leader by jockey Jeff Lloyd she shot to the front only to be run down by a horse that has some huge wraps on it. " She tries very hard this mare, and even though she had only had one second and one third from eight starts before today she has run three fourths beaten under two lengths in all of those " Gentle said

" I think a combination of barrier one and the addition of blinkers for the first time today saw Blucara improve a bit " said Gentle

Brian has the motto as shown here " have horse will travel, to wherever I have to go for the best result for the owners".
