Chevalion On The Way Up
May 19, 2012
Chevalion resumed from a spell on Saturday 19th May, at Kembla Grange. After trialing well at kembla Grange a month prior to his resumption Gentle elected to take on the older and more seasoned horses by running Chevalion in the BM60 rather than keeping him in his own grade as a maiden. After nominating Chevalion for the maiden a midweek assessment of the nominations forced a change of plans for Gentle with Chevalion to put a late nomination in for the Benchmark 60. Gentle said " After Chevalion was unlucky in being beaten at his first start in a race, he was caught three wide outside the leaders and was nutted on the line, when a horse is beaten through bad luck or something going wrong during the race, you have to look at that race as a win and keep going to the next race you have in mind otherwise your horse could be stuck back in a grade that is below where it should be, and a lot of horses don't reach their full potential because you keep getting beaten in the easier races".
Chevalion travelled well behind the favorite Manjenine who was able to get away with a very easy lead, at the top of the straight Manjenine was able to kick away with Chevalion chasing hard to be beaten one length in class record time. "considering Chevalion was racing horses that have already won races and the winner Manjenine had won four races going into the race Chevalion has performed very well" Gentle said.
